    2014 Porta Bohemica Pinot Noir

As some of you know, Czech wines are a big part of our store; meaning...we have 7 of them, which is 7 more than the other major stores in New York.  The small country started growing lots of cool stuff right after the fall of communism with a large natural scene emerging in the mid-2000s. Being lovers of natural wine, this is where we come in.

    New Vintages of Paolo Bea

Paolo Bea is one of those names that almost that has almost become a secret code in the wine consumers world. Not for the un-savvy shopper. Those who speak about it are normally avid collectors who appreciate great values. And while Paolo Bea is not cheap, for what it can do in the cellar over time, there is literally nothing like it. Speaking personally, I have only tried one older one before from 2001 that was still so young; the tannins hit the brakes on my palate as if I came to a red light with a group of school children crossing the street. It had barely aged a day.  The strange thing is that many people still don't know what these wines are capable of, since the amount of pre-2000 that exists in the U.S. is very slim and not many have claimed a taste.

New Vintages of COS from Sicily

Today's feature is an oldie but a goodie here at Some Good Wine. Azienda Agricola COS––to be known here on out as simply COS––has been a staple of our Sicilian diet since we opened. As of recent, the winery has moved from working with their original distributor Domaine Select to Polaner Selections. The good news for the consumer, is that the prices are a bit better, especially on the higher end ones.

Great Sale on older Pepe: Emidio and Ar. Pe. Pe

For today, we have a duo of fine wines that don't have much in common except that their both Italian and their names kind of sound alike. We shall call this: A Tale of Two Pepes

Below is a line up of some older yet newer released wines from AR. Pe. Pe in Valtellina and Emidio Pepe in Montepulciano.  Here's the deal:

New Vintages of Spanish Gems from Vega Sicilia: Macan, Alion and Pintia

Vega Sicilia is considered by many to be the most rare and exclusive wine from Spain. Located at Valbuena del Duero, 30 km east of the ancient university town of Valladolid, it was the first winery in Spain to plant Bordelaise varieties back in the late 1800s; these vines are still planted today alongside Tempranillo, and are a small portion of what makes up Único. The wines of Vega Sicilia are renowned for their elegance and longevity. Perhaps the most iconic wine in all of Spain and most certainly from the winery, Único is legendary.

2015 Domaine Manarine Les Terres Saintes Cotes du Rhone

For this week, we are bringing back an oldie that hasn't made the newsletter in a while. One of the first Cotes du Rhones I ever had and proud to be able to bring back at a substantial discount. Domaine Manarine makes various wines, but theLes Terres Saintes is their top red. A blend of mostly Grenache with a bit of Syrah from average aged 55 year old vines.

New Vintages of Jean Marc Pillot

There are so many things to love about this today's featured producer, Jean Marc Pillot, but two things in particular really stand out. 1. While everyone else is trying to get their latest release out the door, Pillot holds back a year. How bad ass is that? While everyone else is concentrating on 2016 reds and 2017 whites at this time, he is a year off. Respect.

    2015 Bitouzet-Prieur

Today's producer is one I discovered years ago. Truth be told, I wasn't a fan. I found the wines to be simplistic and worthy of their very low price point––could you believe it! Back in the day Volnay 1er Cru was $65.  It would be cliche to quote Dylan––"for the times they are a changing"––or make a reference to Rodney Dangerfield but it is truly amazing how much these wines have progressed and in 2015, we are seeing the best yet!
