2024 Loewen Longuicher Maximin Herrenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs

Maximin Herrenberg is a south-facing vineyard with red slate, a soil structure that is relatively rare in the Mosel. The Grosses Gewächs comes from the steepest and most rugged portion of the vineyard. While this section isn't part of the extremely old "1896" vineyard parcel, this section was planted only 6 years later, in 1902, so we're still talking about extremely old vines with impossibly tiny yields. 

JS 98 Points: Here’s proof that the Mosel can produce very great dry white wines. So cool and precise on the compact, medium-bodied palate, but the mineral power and racy energy are gigantic. Still very young. The wild rose and rose hip aromas steadily expand in the glass as this aerates. Enormously long and focused finish. From vines planted in 1902. Vegan. Drink or hold.
