2013 Quinta Cruz Graciano Clements Hills
A grape rarely seen on its own (fewer than fifty producers worldwide bottle a 100% Graciano), this displays a rustic, spicy edge that is as bracing as it is satisfying. Forest scents and wild herbs jump out of the glass, while the palate delivers a hit of peppery, savory, meaty notes that cry out for grilled meats or mushroom stew. "It's not about the fruit with Graciano," says winemaker Jeff Emery. I agree, and yet find this as satisfying and complete as just about any red wine I've tried recently.
