Fleury Vintage Champagne

Fleury Vintage Champagne

Just in time for the holidays, Champagne Fleury, the first Biodynamic domaine in Champagne (certified 1989), has generously released a tiny amount of library wines.  These vintage Champagnes have been resting at the winery since bottling, and are now showing absolutely spectacularly.

We have been big fans of Fleury champagne since our inception, selling mostly the non vintage blanc de noirs, with the occasional vintage one crossing our shelves.  But this is something else.  Mesmerizing and unheard of.

2008 Fleury Champagne Boléro Extra Brut
Newsletter Price: $117.99
100% Pinot Noir, with 2.5 g/l dosage, and extended lees aging. A special old vine selection of Pinot from their holdings - this wineexhibits lovely complexity from the 10 years on the lees prior to disgorgement. All vintage cuvées from Fleury have the secondary fermentation take place in the old agrafé style, under a cork held down by a staple "Bague Carre" (Cork secured by a staple vs. crown cap) thus the different shape to the bottle collars on the vintage wines. This technique is expensive & time-consuming requiring much hand-work to process the bottles. The subtle micro-oxygenation this technique allows for adds complexity to the vintage releases. The mousse is delicate yet persistent. Baked apple, minerals and toffee combine into a chorus of flavors.

2010 Fleury Extra Brut
Newsletter Price: $114.99
Made from 20 year old vines, the Extra-Brut 2010 Champagne from Fleury is a superb cuvée for those who love aged wines. This beautiful 2010 vintage is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, 40% of which is aged in oak barrels. With a low dosage, this champagne reveals a rich nose, with aromas of coffee and honey. On the palate, the attack is lively with a beautiful minerality and citrus fruit aromas and a spicy finish. Thanks to a very good balance and a nice acidity, this champagne can be kept for another 5 to 10 years.
