2016 Domaine Belle Crozes-Hermitage Les Pierrelles @ Exceptional Discount

When I'm not waxing poetic about Burgundy, I'm drinking Rhone. And if it's Monday-Wednesday night, I'm drinking Crozes Hermitage. One of the most underrated wines in the world, considering it's spot on this planet and the real estate nearby that it encompasses.  And if I'm drinking Crozes, I'm thinking about this one today: 2016 Domaine Belle Crozes-Hermitage Les Pierrelles.

More 2017 Red Burgundy: Marchand Tawse

Most of my day is spent selling Burgundy to Burgundy lovers with a good part of my day hearing people complain about the prices. Touche! I'm with you. But what I keep telling people over and over again, is to look to some producers who are still under the radar, not discovered by the Burgundy mobs, have the potential to age for decades and believe it or not still reasonable for the price.

New Wines from Francois Villard in the Northern Rhone

Just when you thought you had all the Northern Rhone money can buy, new ones keep popping up in this tiny area. Today we have a lineup from a "new" yet brilliant and poised winemaker by the name of Francois Villard.  Today, he’s working with 64 hectares total, of which he owns 40 hectares; making wine from Côte-Rôtie down to Saint Peray, and a little of everything between––four Condrieu, five Saint-Joseph (red and white), three Crozes-Hermitage, a Cornas, and four Vin de France (Marsanne-Roussanne, Viognier, and two Syrah).

New Vintages of COS Whites from Sicily

Today's feature is an oldie but a goodie here at Some Good Wine. Azienda Agricola COS––to be known here on out as simply COS––has been a staple of our Sicilian diet since we opened. As of recent, the winery has moved from working with their original distributor Domaine Select to Polaner Selections. The good news for the consumer, is that the prices are better.

  • New Vintages of Paolo Bea

    New Vintages of Paolo Bea

It's that time of year again. The new vintages of Paolo Bea have arrived, The wine that made Some Good Wine famous. Paolo Bea is one of those names that almost that has almost become a secret code in the wine consumers world. Not for the un-savvy shopper. Those who speak about it are normally avid collectors who appreciate great values. And while Paolo Bea is not cheap, for what it can do in the cellar over time, there is literally nothing like it. Speaking personally, I have only tried one older one before from 2001 that was still so young; the tannins hit the brakes on my palate as if I came to a red light with a group of school children crossing the street. It had barely aged a day.  The strange thing is that many people still don't know what these wines are capable of, since the amount of pre-2000 that exists in the U.S. is very slim and not many have claimed a taste.

    Duo of Exotic Piedmont Reds

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, here comes another weird  due of Piedmontese grape called “Ruche” and "Grignolino." Never heard of them? You're not alone, very few have. Where do we begin: Castagnole Monferrato is the DOCG for Ruche with a tiny amount of wine being produced by only something like 5 or 6 producers. I hate to make comparisons as great wines should exist on their own like iconic artists, but for the sake of simplicity, Ruche has the aromatics of a Nebbiolo -- mountainous, airy, herby and wild -- with the acid and tanginess of a great Barbera. That doesn't really do it justice and some purists may balk at my analogy. Let them. Try for yourself and give me a better analogy.

Baby Chateauneuf du Pape for Insane Price: 95 Points!

Lirac is one of those mysterious villages in the Southern Rhone considered thrid in the hierarchy behind Chateauneuf and Gigondas. It has the same grape combination––give or take––and tends to exist on similar terroir without the massive slope.  So baby, toddler, senior citizen, who cares? As you will see once you purchase this wine, it is insane, off the charts for the price.
