2013 Jacques Carillon and 2014 Herve Souhaut

Jacques Carillon needs no introduction. Or maybe he does. Tiny plantings across Puligny and Chassagne Montrachet that only end up in the hands of a select few who have the utmost appreciation for this sleek and conscientious philosophy on white Burgundy. Selections are always limited. His 2013s were down 70% from previous years, so….they are even more limited.

2013 Jacques Carillon Puligny Montrachet: $75

2013 Jacques Carillon Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Macherelles: $125

Herve Souhaut might need an introduction. Heard of him? Some have. It's a fun name that gets thrown around in natural wine circles. Being that his style is so distinct it definitely hits the menus of the most esoteric and geeky wine bars. In short, these are amazing natural wines that are not for everyone. You know how people talk about those barnyard flavors in Northern Rhone Syrahs and blends? Do you like them? Is it something you wanna drink with the latest Walking Dead episode? For me it is, for others….not so much. This is my warning. I am not by any means saying these are barnyard infested, cryptic, ha ha, you can't get it, natural wines. But they are funky. They are as alive as life can get in a natural wine. And with that, let me shut up and show you the offer….

2012 Herve Souhaut Blanc: $29.99
Very small production of 90% Rousanne and 10% Viognier from 100 year old vines, this aromatic blend is full of florals, tropical fruit, and wet stone. Pear and fig burst from the glass, balanced by structural minerality.

2014 Herve Souhaut Blanc: $29.99
Same as above. Haven't tasted it yet so can't comment if this a fresher version. Where the tropical fruit feels like it fell from a Caribbean tree. Wet stone like walking through coral reefs. Pear and fig….Oh wait, maybe I have tried this?

2014 Herve Souhaut Syrah: $31.99
From 30 year old vines. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo long maceration without de-stemming. The wine is fermented in wooden tanks and aged on fine lees in second-hand oak casks for eight months then bottled without filtration. Filled with fresh and crushed violets that really sting and dance. Bacon and duck fat with deep black berries and plums immersed in a cool, watered down strawberry texture.

2014 Herve Souhaut Souteronne: $27.99
Old vine Gamay. From the Rhone. Yesreally. Fresh and singing black cherry, plum and farmers market strawberries. Fig, herbs de provence with crazy dried fruit elements coexisting with grimy earth and rock. Smoke. Lust. Passion. Can you dig it...
